How to Practice Self-Care

1. Journaling

Journaling serves as a wonderful way to explore your thoughts and feelings surrounding the events in your life, the events that may be causing you stress and anxiety. Seeing it all pour out on paper gives you the power to analyze your feelings and allows you to form a new perception about the events in your life and come up with solutions that will result in a healthier life.

Journaling is also a great way to express your gratitude for the blessings in your life. A gratitude journal helps to build long term resilience when you are down.  Just a quick flip through of the things you have written down that you are grateful for, can lift your spirits up.

Try journaling first thing in the morning or just before going to sleep at night to put your mind in a parasympathetic state before going to sleep. Just 3-4 min a day is all you need.

2. Spending Time in Nature

Research shows that a min of 2 hours a week in nature greatly benefits cognitive and mental health, as well as it improves one's mood and emotional well-being. It helps to reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, lowers blood pressure and reduces cortisol (stress hormone).

When getting out in nature try your best to be present to maximize your health benefits.  Take deep breaths, pause to listen to the sounds of nature and observe nature in its beauty.

Did you know that moving your workout outdoors in nature can reduce the risk of mental health problems by up to 50%. Something like an early morning of Yoga in your backyard or going for a run outside instead of an indoor treadmill, helps to invigorate you as the morning sun shines bright and you inhale and exhale breaths of fresh air.

3. Skin Care /Hair Care/Scalp Care Routine

Having a healthy skin / hair /scalp routine will definitely amp up your self-confidence because when you look good, you feel good. When you feel good you are more self motivated, more creative, goal focussed, excited to make plans and develop new talents and you are naturally more engaged.  The act of this routine has also been clinically proven to help with reducing or eliminating stress and anxiety.

Having a healthy hair and skin routine is important to your overall health. Choose products that are nourishing and healthy and that are not counterproductive to your overall wellness. All of our formulas at Blumseed are curated without harmful ingredients, such as silicones, sulfates, parabens, phthalates, synthetic dyes and fragrances, and artificial preservatives, so you can practice your self-care knowing that everything you are using is beneficial to you internally and externally.

4. Quality time with Friends and Family

Spending quality time with friends and family is important to your emotional well-being. We all face ups and downs in our life and being able to share those experiences improves our psychological wellness. Studies have shown that people who spend more time with family members and friends have a greater sense of purpose and find life more meaningful. Loneliness can be an incredibly harmful issue, leading to symptoms of anxiety and depression.

By spending more time with the people you care about, you’ll have a built-in support system for anything you might be struggling with. Quality time with friends and family can remind you how special and important you are and the joy and value you bring to others.
