The Ritual of Washing Your Hair | BS Love Letter | August 2026

Dear Blumseed Fam,

I truly look forward to wash days. Not simply because I love the feeling of clean hair and a refreshed scalp, but because I've intentionally made wash day a time to take care of me.

Whenever possible, I choose a day when my kids aren't home so I can enjoy the experience without interruptions or feeling rushed. I want to be present for it. Usually, I begin preparing the day before. I'll gently detangle and section my hair while watching some of my favourite YouTube channels. It's a simple little ritual that makes the next day feel even more relaxed.

Before I step into the shower, I begin with one of my favourite parts of my routine: my pre-poo. I apply my Onion + Black Seed + Fenugreek Deep Treatment Oil to my hair and scalp, giving my strands and scalp a moment to receive some nourishment before cleansing.

Then, I step into the shower. My shampoo and conditioner are already waiting for me, and I bring my Tangle Teezer into the shower for a gentle detangle while I condition. I light a candle in the bathroom because, for me, it's the little details that set the mood.

Then I turn on the water.

There is something so soothing about the sound and feeling of warm water touching my scalp and hair. I take a moment to simply be there—to breathe, to listen, and to take in the beautiful scents of the botanical ingredients surrounding me. As I gently massage my scalp, I can feel the tension from the week begin to melt away.

I love the feeling of cleansing my scalp and hair, knowing I'm washing away the buildup and the weight of the week. Then comes the conditioning—a moment to slow down, soften, and nourish my hair.

And I don't stop at my hair. I take this opportunity to care for my whole body, gently exfoliating with my loofah and giving myself the same attention and care from head to toe. By the time I step out of the shower, I feel like a brand-new person.

My scalp feels refreshed. My hair feels clean, soft, hydrated, and nourished. My curls feel so good that I find myself touching my hair throughout the day. But more than anything, I feel like myself again.

That's what I love about this ritual. It's not just about washing my hair. It's about creating space to slow down. It's about letting the water wash away the week. It's about taking a few quiet moments to care for myself—mind, body, scalp, and hair.

Life can be busy. There are always things to do, people who need us, and places we need to be. But I've learned that making time for myself isn't selfish. It's necessary.

Sometimes, self-care doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes, it's simply lighting a candle, massaging your scalp, caring for your skin, taking a deep breath, standing under warm water, and allowing yourself to be fully present in the moment.

For me, wash day has become so much more than washing my hair.

It's a ritual of renewal.

A moment to release the week, reconnect with myself, and emerge feeling refreshed from head to toe.

And perhaps that's what I love most about it.

The ritual reminds me that I deserve to be cared for, too.

With love,
